Authorities identified the 18-year-old killed when a series of gas explosions rocked a string of Boston suburbs on Thursday.
Leonel Rondon, from Lawrence, Mass., was sitting inside a car when an explosion toppled a chimney that crashed into that vehicle, officials said.
Rondon only recently got his driver’s license and was sitting in the car with two pals, loved ones told WHDH.
They appeared to be inside a Honda sports utility vehicle, in a driveway with a nearby basketball hoop when the blast happened and toppled the brick chimney.
Rondon was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital and pronounced dead at about 8:30 p.m., officials said.
His two friends remained hospitalized on Thursday night.
“Mr. Rondon was inside a car near 35 Chickering Rd in Lawrence when a chimney from a house explosion fell on the car,” according to a statement from the Essex County DA’s office.
